Not a whole lot of people on here anymore but that's ok.
Figures I'd post what I'm learning and hopefully someone in the future will be able to learn something.
Hot an old E15 with a busted 'control card' and the speed resistors are burnt out.
Picked up a 36v Curtis 1204-027 controller from an old golf cart.
After dissecting the schematics I finally got it figured out. Have to use the controller as wired for a PM (permanent magnet) motor and energize the field windings before supplying current to the armature.

The four contact points underneath the field windings are an old F/R (forward/reverse) switch from a golf cart. You could also use just a simple DPDT switch wired for reversing.
